Saint Francis of Assisi is the founder of the Franciscan order. His iconography is prolific; in this artwork we can see his habit and long earthy hood, the monastic tonsure on his head and he is barefoot, symbol of his main characteristic, poverty. He appears with a bird in his hand and, in the distance, what appears to be a dog and birds flying in the sky. The scene takes place in the middle of a landscape with trees and mountains. Saint Francis was canonized in 1228 and became one of the most venerated saints in Christianity.
