The vast majority of symbols of life are also associated with death and time, the latter is generally represented by the color black. Death can be seen as an extreme form of liberation, in that sense, it’s a state that symbolizes the transformation of things, the evolution, and dematerialization of the being (Cirlot, 1997).
When discussing his artistic work, Ruiz said that:
The theme is the passage from life to death. Eduardo Galeano’s words in “The Journey” inspired me in the gesture used to raise one’s arms when leaving the earthly world. The color in my work accentuates the feeling I want to provoke. In this case, the color pink alludes to life, which is why we say “life is rosy” and contrasts with the black color of the cloud of flies where the arms of the figure are directed, trying to reach or embrace death.
