DIVEDCO
The Community Education Division (DIVEDCO) was a program by the Department of Public Instruction of the Puerto Rican government. It operated between 1949 and 1989 and had the objective to promote education and cultural development in rural and urban communities that were most in need. Audiovisual mediums, publications, and community activities promoted the wellbeing of citizens, social values, and the Puerto Rican identity.
The artists that participated in the workshops by the DIVEDCO during 40 years of operation were the following: Julio Rosado del Valle, Lorenzo Homar, Rafael Tufiño, José Meléndez Contreras, Antonio Maldonado, Luis Germán Cajigas, Carlos Raquel Rivera, Carlos Osorio, Epifanio Irizarry, Rafael Delgado Castro, and Isabel Bernal.
LIBROS PARA EL PUEBLO (BOOKS FOR THE PEOPLE)
In this exposition are some samples called Libros para el pueblo (Books for the People), which allow us to know about some of the most common themes that circulated in Puerto Rico across the XX century.Some of the more common ideas were about themes such as festivities, scientific advancement, nutrition, saints’ days, and calendar events.
